I would like propose that we put together a list of businesses/service providers that are recommended by moms. This should be based on mom's personal experience with the business.
This is motivated by two recent experiences I had. Our dog kari had come down with a ear wound which was treated by a neighborhood vet. Because of improper treatment of this simple wound, it resulted it secondary infection and some liver damage.This vet turned out to be a bank manager who hasn't practised it 30 years and only started after getting VRS.
Alternatively I just found a very good dentist 2 min. away from my home and to think that for years I have been traveling so much to visit a dentist.
This made me realize the importance of word of mouth referalls for using services. I already see that moms are recommending a lot of good doctors, shops etc(e.g. check here). Why don't we compile this into a list which all moms can use?
I would appreciate if all us add people/companies we like to this. Even if each of us add 2 or 3, this will become a substantial list.
I suggest we start with doctors as that is an important question all moms have. I have added the doctors we are very happy with below. I hope each of you can add whom you know. I can collect the list make is easily accessible like the schools section.
1. Dr.K.Balakumari, gynecologist. She practices in her clinic at Teynampet and also at her own hospital Velachery K.S. Hopital. You can get the address here. Yes, she is in our expert panel. She is upto date on whats happening in her field and very considerate and makes you feel very comfortable.
2. Dr.Ramesh, paediatrician. He practices in his clinic off Eldams Road. You can get the address here. Though he is busy, if you have the apointment and go on time, you'll be seen on time in his clinic. He treats conservativly and doesn't give antibiotics for everything. He is also available to talk on phone if there is a need.
3. Vetenerian Saravanan - He was really good with our dog on its last days and makes home visits also. 9840777554.
4. Dr.Gnanapandithan, paediatrician. He practices at SMF, Annanagar. He gives mild medicines. You can fix appointments by calling 044-26268844.
5. Dr.Parakkal Rajasekar, ortho. His diagnosis is good and my relatives go to this doctor. He practices at the Appollo Clinic in T-nagar, GN Chetty Road. You can fix appointment by calling 044-39124444

In T.Nagar, Nungambakkam and Annanagar area...
1. Dr. Deivambigai- Gynaecologist..In BRS hospital, Nungambakkam..Near hotel palmgrove.With or without appointment..timings..11-2pm.. She has consultation in Apollo clinic in Nandanam also.
Positive note--Complete investigations and care.
Negative note--Many ceaserian sections. In my family, 4 of my cousins had C-section.
2. Dr. K.Uma---Gynaecologist--In sundaram medical foundation,Anna nagar..Found good in taking things in positive approach for pregnants and complete investigations.
Positive note--Attempts for normal delivery putting her maximum effort in extended time though she was very busy these days handling many patients.She has attended my delivery.
Negative note--At the same time, I was disappinted in their post delivery care and followups so having followup in BRS hospital with dr. Deivambigai.
3. Dr. Ramesh--Paediatric..In BRS hospital, Nungambakkam..Near hotel palmgorve.With or without appointment..timings..10-1pm.
4. Dr. Srividhya--Paediatric--Near T.nagar Bus stand..Found good in kids care and their diet. Forget the clinic name..I hope one of our cmom knew this name (will give the detail later).With or without appointment.
5. Dr. Ramesh--Paediatric--in Teynampet--already in CMOMs panel list.
I have personal experiance with these 5 doctors. I used to consult them based on their availabily and distance on important situations.

Dr.Sridevi - Gyneacologist at Raju Hospital. Very experienced and well talented. But short tempered. She consults on tuesday,thursday and saturday -eve 6.00 to 8.00 at Raju hospital, T.Nagar. No appointments.

Dr.Mohan Rao - Paediatrician and General Physician
He has been practising in his clinic which is situated on GN Chetty Road next to ee Cee Manor hotel for over 30yrs. He is an excellent doctor and diagonose problems and treats very effectively. We are extremely happy with him and anyone would one would feel comfortable going to him. Extremely friendly and the number to reach is 044-28158603. He consults Monday - Friday between 8am and 12noon and 5pm to 9pm. Saturday and Sunday between 8am and 12noon.
Dr.Geetha Haripriya - Gynaecologist
Practices in Prashanth Multispecialty Hospitals and she is an amazing doctor and she was my gynaec for all my pregnancies. The wait would be extremely long to meet her but she would individually meet everyone post the checkup with the duty doc. She is excellent if you have the patience and perseverance to meet her. I have also met her at 2am for my appt but she would still be fresh like in the morning. That by itself will boost your morale to a great extent.

We can contact her anytime over the phone during emergencies (I have troubled her thrice during mid nights & SHE HAS BEEN REALY PATIENT & HELPED ME FOR CERTAIN GUIDANCE OVER THE PHONE ITSELF)
- Dr. Mahesh (Husband of Dr Srividay mentioned above) – Pediatrician cum Child Neuro Specialist (I heard that there are very few Child Neuro Specialist in Chennai & he is one among them). He sees at Mahesh Child Care Clinic at T.Nagar & West Mambalam. He can be reached at # 9841219579
He concentrates more on Neuro related problems but would look at general child care matters too.

Because of my good teeth maintenance, I have been to at least 10 dentists so far & bet Dr Priya is the BEST. She is very patient, understands our issues well & does a neat treatment. She charges very economically too.

Gynaec-Only gynaec i ve met is Dr Shanta at SMF- again kairasi but ma not speak much...at the time of delivery she wud be a totally different person !!!
General Physician-Dr Rajkumar at Apollo Clinic Annanagar- almost like a fmly doctor-very simple and down to earth person...doesnt charge for common cold, fever and small minor ailments !!!
Dr Ravi at Apollo main for ortho and spine related ailments...very friendly and motivating
Dr Raj- ENT at Apollo First Med- a gentleman , down to earth,personal touch

Here are my recommendations;
Gynae - Dr. Sumana Manohar - Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road. also has clinic in evenings at Saligramam.
I found everything only positive about her. Highly experinced (being fertility specialist as well, results are very good), devotes time to each patient, always carries same attitude, day or night, and what best i found was the sympathetic attitude when i was in labour and post delivery. She will hold me get up and help me lie down, and was comforting me the way a mother will do. She waited for my delivery to happen a normal way for 17 hrs, even though she had told me earlier that its very difficult. Lot of patience. Her c-section rates are very very low.
Peadiatrician - Dr. Meena Thyagrajan - Apollo Children Hospital, Nungambakkam, in mornings and Apollo health Clinics, in evening.
Wonderful combination of modern and conservative systems to bring up your kid. Encouraged a lot to give home made fresh juices, kanjis, fresh soaked raagi kanjis and all to my son. Will take weeks and months before going for antibiotics. Highly experinced. Very frindly with kids and helps you on phone as well a lot.
One thing which I have always recommended and repeating here is that always prefer to have one consulting doctor in one category for your family and kids. I mean to say, do not go and consult two-three peadiatrician or general physicians or gynaes. I have seen some cases going really really bad with people ending up in hospital beds due to this because no two doctors, there diagnosis and treatments are going to be the same. If you are not happy with a doctor, simply do not consult again. And try to make sure that the child spcialist you are consulting is attached to one or the other hospital. In case of some emergency when unfortuately the kid's helath has gone really wrong in odd time, you can just walk in the emergency ward of that hospital and they will be able to call your doctor and will also have all records in front of them.

Dr Rita vijayan gyn SK nursing home, vadapalani - good old lady, amazing doctor.
Dr KS Subramaniam child specialist, shastri nagar - really good, gives only light medicines never to heavy doses.
Dr. Albert in VElachery is agood pediatric.. he's very friendly & gives mild doses..
Dr. Saroja Ramanathan a gyanecologist in adyar is also very gud. she's a consulting doctor in st.isabel's hospital

Dr.Govindarajan @ Gopalapuram - Pediac.....we have been taking our kid to him since her birth @ Isabels.....no appointment needed....only on first come first basis......even on sunday he will be there in clinic for half day.....very gud doctor.
Dr Mohan Rao at GN Chetty road (Just next to Jeeva Park), T Nagar. I have been taking my kid to him since my kid was 4 mnths old (now he is 3). He is a very cool doc, listens to us patiently and suggests... He remembers our names correct and becomes a great friend :).
He is a Peadiatrician and GP. His wife Dr Gita Rao is a gynae and just like him. They are there for the past 30 yrs. Good luck.

Dr.Sowmya Raghavan...at kasturiba nagar colony is a very good gynecologist.
i strongly suggest her for all the telugu speaking moms as she is very fluent in telugu and also tamil...as we cannt express everyting in english,,, :)
she consults in apollo at kotturpuram in the mornings and padma priya hospital in evenings, or you can consult her at her home (8.30PM to 9.30Pm everyday except for sundays.

I had my baby girl deliveried by Dr. Chanda Balaji. She is a good gynecologist . Her Clinic is called Balaji Clinic. It is in 3rd Street, Malavia Avenue, Thiruvanmiyur. She is a young and very supportive doctor. She was referred to me by my friend.
Dr Sivakadaksham is a general physician and a famous cardiologist,has clinic at Lakshmipuram,royapettah.

She is the MD of the hospital and is a good doctor.

Dr. Rekha Kurian and Dr. Kurian Joseph, the gynec couple at St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Dr.Guruswamy Road, Chetpet. Both my kids were delivered there and they are such lovely docs. But u should have GREAT patience waiting for checkups. But trust me they desperately try for normal delivery.Also they also have a fertility clinic.Dr. Rekha is supposed to be a specialist in that too.

I Would Sugest Mrs. J.S Lakshmi. She Practices @ St,Isabel Mylapore.. Very Old lady and experienced too.. My Co-Sis has got the Normal Delivery for her twins. and even i had complication during pregnency but she gave hope and made me mentally prepared for the normal Delivery and did it as well. very Caring

i would like to recommend Dr.Anitha Parthasarathy who is a Gynacologist and she is a very nice person very jovial type person and advices very straight fowardly so that even an illitrate can easily understand. she goes to many palces but as far as i know she comes to orion lab at R.A.Puram,and apollo clinic at R.A.Puram and she goes has an hospital at T.Nagar and many more.she is a very active person. i am consulting her for all my gynacological pblms.with her guidence only i got 2 kids twins. she never charges high.hope anyone can contact her and get ur pblm solved if any
