As admin said our focus is on moms so holding a contest for kids alone will not be reachable enough.

I just came up with another idea, c if this will help.

How about having a MOM and ME fancy dress contest. Where we will give a theme like say hospital or circus, and the mom and kid both have to dress up accordingly. Like one can be a doctor and other nurse(Hospital) or once can be lion and the other ringman(Circus).

The rule should be that they must not rent the dress but come up with something on their own, using things available at home.

What do you say??

We have to be quick to come up with ideas and implement coz as buzzy said its soon vacation time.

and i guess since we are involving moms too in the contest it should be done on a Saturday.

Admin, can we try these at summer camps.. just a thought..

last year, my daughter attended a summer camp nearby, where some crafts, clay making etc were taught by one Fevicryl lady. So that was advt to Fevicryl too.

Similarly, if we conduct some little contest sort of, at that place, with our banner and all, it will be some activity time utilised, and also, invariably moms will come to pick up their kids, and we can ask them to register.

Quite a few kids turn up, and we can have it as a one-day event at each place.

I can help conduct one here in hosur. There is a playschool here which is going to have its annual day function grandly in a hotel. I think that will be the most appropriate time to advertise about chennaimoms as there will be a gathering of moms. Admin pls contact if u r interested.

as anu said we can start with our rounds and continue the same during the summer camps too!!!!

• The best hassle free one : colouring compettion with pre printed pictures submitted to school which will have details of our website behind the pic. Ask them to submit the same to the school and judge and give away the prizes before vacations.

good idea guys...... we can try out at sm play school kwn to our moms / summer camp is a good idea too. If none of these works out, then we can also think of a alternate option of having a competition in an big apartment / colony which has 100+ houses. We can expect participation from at least 30-40 pple if we hold the competition with in their campus..... if this clicks, we can even think of having 2-3 contest covering the entire segment........ like "Mom & Me (as sudha said), contest for individual moms excl like vegetable cutting, some team games (since neighbours would be familiar with each other) like quiz too".

moms, if we go for coloring competition as buzz said with printed notes on chennaimoms, how will we reach moms? The kids wd do the coloring and they can't reach the word 'chennaimoms' :)

so whatever is the competition, how to involve the moms?

When sudha told me abt this "mom and me" fancy dress, i was thinking that we must have the audiences... for working moms, to be present with providing place for them to dress up, put up a stage (many play schools doesnt have one) - all this has to be considered.

Apartments and summer camps are good ideas. Apartments, again we need to consider this stage, judges, kids of various age groups has to be considered....

i am just thinking aloud. We have a small time and budget, so what would be good? and how to execute it?

• We give the coloring sheets to the kids to take home di and they have to submit it in a few days . So the moms will get to see the sheet . Maybe we can ask them to register their name on the site or something like that..

Hey Anu thats a good idea, we can look into the having a competition at big apt,where we can pull in most of the moms at their place itself..

Well going with play school and summer camp is also a good one.I will also help u out in this.Will try contacting Play schools when time permits.

Let me make it clear, our main aim is to make more registartions into Chennai Mom and spread abt the website..Am I right?

We can also try with our c moms, Those who bring maximum registrations can be awarded...

Well will come up with more ideas, let me squeeze my limited brain..

these are some points which come to my mind:

We chose play school since they are more approachable but are targets are moms. So we have to focus on both kids and moms because none of the playschool will be ready to offer us help if we do not show interest in them or in their kids. So having a contest for both togather is a must.

Now since moms have to join the and i see that most of the moms are working it can be done only on a Saturday. We need our volunteer moms also to keep themself free on weekend.

And I am not sure if we can combine 2-3 schools togather because each one wants there own publicity and will not like to entertain any outsider. So I guess it has to be 1 playschool per week. otherwise we again have to go looking out for venue and arrange for bigger prizes and all!

@ Anushisha the apartment idea is good!! I have seen the radio city ppl holding promo shows in our apartment we can do it for chennaimoms to if moms who are staying in one can help us get permission.

Hey admin! most of the apartments have a community hall of their own. so i dont think we need a stage. Atmost we may need is a sound system. the rest will be similar to what we did at the women's day get to.

Buzzy I think admins concern that holding a contest and chennaimoms name not reaching our targets isacceptable. I noticed this during the Mamma Mia handout distribution, they read it and just keep it aside. Instead we can involve them and make them enthusiastic to enter into our world. We sure have a better response after Mamma Mia where ppl saw us doing things.

@Admin- about having the audience. As i always say. We are not asking them to step on the stage all togather. so those wait for their turns are the audience. Dont you worry about that! Start with something audience and judges will be taken care of. but let it be a free to entre initialy only then i think we can get better response.

Good ideas....from evry1....Even I too stayin in a apartment...Have many Kids...So i too can seek and ask permission to conduct these programmes...

Good ideas to find many moms. If its gonna be in an appartment then we can have the prog on the terrace if suppose we dont have any open space at the ground floor. Also in spite of play school only colouring competition wud work. Even fancy dresses wil get mess up because those kids wuld not feel comfortable in wearing a fancy dress (say lion, sun, etc) and stand before us for sometime. All they like is to play with somethings.. so lets have some kind of games like thing which also have their moms indulged.... wil try and put some of my ideas on games at playschool asap

Playschools- need to be done Asap, as the schools wud close by first or the second week of march...Lets approach the school authorities /admin to fix on a date n time...for younger kids, only coloring and may be rhymes recitation wud wrk out..for older kids we can look at drawing contests...and  may be story telling contest...

Lets look at contests whch may not involve lot of time energy n money...the ones which can be done with minimal resource...

The topic cud be given, and the kids can themselves bring in their required stuff( we need not spend on coloring sheets or colors)

The partcipants can be judged then n there...

And we cud also have a small contest for moms or mom n kids...we have our creative Sudha to come up with smethg interestg...

If possible lets make it a point that whoever wants to partcipate shd log in to the site and register or smethg like that...so that they peep in to the site compulsorily...once they r here...no looking back....

else we need to hand out sme pamplets abt chennaimoms...

2. all moms stand in one side facing back and the kids should identify their moms so as to make both kids and moms participate

kids do not speak do not do anything when we ask them to do. as a result the oldest one wins. especialy when the moms are around they make themself more comfortable and play around. of course that is what they are ment to do, so lets search for simple options...

ok here is one more idea. Mom and me painting. moms have to paint there kids palm and feet and create designs by taking their print on paper. The best design can be awarded. Ppl can come up with variety of patterns. Wat say??

I think i did not put it properly.  What i meant was a running(depending on the space available) and reaching out to their moms facing backwards. The kid who finishes first is the winner. If you still feel its hard, just neglect this.

We have Kanchanapaati ppl on our members list and I think we have Bamboola owner also on our members list. Abiarun runs Roots to Wings. If I remember correctly, even Sumithra Sree was conducting a play school.

We can first reach out to them for a start. I liked Priya Vatsan's idea....Fancy Dress is definitely a good idea. If not for mom & me fancy dress, we can send a handout to the mother asking them to sign up on our site and get the child dressed and also be a part of the contest for witnessing. Colouring is a good idea.

I am ready to volunteer provided it is on the weekend. The apartment where Sayee, Charan, Adhi and I live is huge but the association will definitely expect something as it a promotion for the website. This may be the case in big apartments.

Priya your idea is good. I do not know how successful it will be as a contest though because kids as i said are unpredictable but with what you have said i think we can have it as a fun game after the contest!!! its definately a nice game

Very good idea to spread our wings. I have another suggestion. Why not convert the whole thing into a summer camp. We have so many talented moms on our team. This way we can attract more moms. Nowadays, summer camps are a better way of attracting poeple. We can have simple activities like fun drawing, coloring, clay modeling, science experiments, simple cooking, paper craft....etc. I can teach small songs, clay models, experiments...If there are any volunteers, we can pull this off very well. We can also collect a fee for this. What say admin???

Otherwise also, please be assured of my presence...whatever it is...contest or camp. Sudha, do let me know - adiyen ungal sevaikku aajir...!

I like Dharini's idea too but we may have to tie up with a play school or some place so we can get their place to do and costing/commission will have to be worked.

We can cut down on the venue cost if anyone can get us to use their apartment community hall.....!

Reg, mom s signing up, i thought of something..

I m only thinking of summer camps.. When u put a kid into a summer camp, they usually will ask u to sign a form, with ur and kids details.

here, we can request the summer camp to add a column for email id, compulsary. Also with a request to the mom to register to the site..

Then we can send invites to our site to the moms e mail.  If not now, they might join later also.

 its a nice idea. Since i work for a play school, i can try arranging for small contests. But the prob is too many moms cannot be allowed inside the school hall. So as Anu4nivedh suggested banner will work out. But i will let u know  if i get permission

Instead of conducting the shows play-school wise, why not conduct the events as "Inter Play-school" competitions? In that way, the play school co-ordinators would encourage more of its kids to participate....so more kids means more moms actually...we can arrange for a party hall for half a day and conduct the programme between play schools...

Just my thoughts....chk out if it can work...

Hi, we can also have a small program like "Mom and me" for older kids (6-10 years) in summer camps/community halls. There can be a fancy dress with mother and child and they can play roles like 'Avvayar and Murugan', 'Yashoda & Krishna' etc.

Conducting a summer camp is a good idea. To start with, it will keep our kids occupied. I'll also like to help in the summer camp during the time I'll be here.

if u come out with some good ideas i will defitnitely do some arrangement to spread at all our existing branches and upcoming ones....

and also summer camps would be a gr8 idea to do..but then we have come to end of the academic year...and most of the pre-ply schools are going to close down shortly we have to act and do things faster....

else i also have an idea we can do something at the beginning of the academic year when the new admissions come in...it would also be nice to such things...

     Hi - This is a good discussion.  Well this is my idea

Choose a venue - say for eg a club-im a dependent member of presidency club . 

Conduct the competition at this venue for schools located in that area....say chetpet, kilpauk, .egmore etc...can be done at the same time. 

Approach schools to nominate 5-6 children for each category....so that way it becomes an interschool competition as well.

The activities should be focussed on the child- colouring and singing depending on  the age group.

I think we r keeping on discussing abt this for the past few days, but wats happening...r we planning any thing really..cos all the schools will be shut down quickly. Immediate action required.

i dunno any play school and my daughter also does not got to a play school .. but if there s a way i cud be of some use.. i shall def do it

why dont we link this with sumitrasree's financial help? make it an event and gve the proceeds to her. the expenses can be shared by all those moms who wanted to contribute.

Thanks for all the suggestions given. I have some problem with accessing cmoms, hence the delay in replying you.

All the suggestions are really great and would love to do them all :) But since there is a time constraint now, here goes my thoughts.........

Let us trial run it at one play school. Based on the success, we can take it up for many schools or as KG3 suggested we could do an inter-play school competition.

As abiramiv suggested, we can do the planning during the summer and conduct it in next academic year.

As sherrl has said, we can do this area wise every month or something like that.

Anu, the summer camp is a good idea... but we have to really plan for conducting one. Last year I had some cross promotions with few summer camps - displayed banner, gave hand out etc, but it didn't create that much a difference. I will keep this in mind and bug you towards Jan 2011 :)

The cutemom's suggestion of participating in an already planned event would be great. Would love to be a part of it and am waiting to hear back from  you.

I have not done anything apartment-wise. Thats a good thought but as suggested lot of things has to be sorted out - age group of kids would be different, how to handle etc would take some more time.

Dhaarini, yokibu allows registration only for moms whose kids are in school. Are they open for play schools also? When I tried to register when my son was in play school, it didnt allow me to...

So for the initial trial version, we'll take our scape goat sudha (momluvsanju)'s daughter's play school as she has already spoke to them. Let her finalize the date and time with her school. The moms who have volunteered to help, please come and help me conduct the event (we can watch sudha participate in the event.... she has been always conducting games and events so long!). Based on the success we'll discuss on the next target to be achieved. It would be good if more no. of volunteers come as the participating moms would then buy into chennaimoms seeing how we enjoy :)

So the ball is on sudha's court for our chennaimoms' first "Play school event"........

You can register an event with yokibu as an organiser. For that, you dont need to be even a member. I was thinking in terms of publicizing our summer camp, in case we decide to conduct one. Even if we are conducting a contest for children, we can draw more attention through that site....! I have already advertised with them once and the response was good. I got around 20 - 25 calls and 15 children came forward. (It is free of cost!). Do let me know if you want to go ahead. I will post it on the website.

since the round is starting with my daughter's play school first. i will tell you how things have been coordinated.

I approached Ms. Devi one of the teacher and correspondent for Dissney Play School at Nanganallur.

The basic idea is publicity for chennaimoms but in turn we are also giving them publicity through chennaimoms when we post the pictures of the event here.

The will get the moms to join the event and give us the venue and we are sponsering the event and the prizes.

I have the come up with the some posters and handouts for the same. The poster will be on display and the handouts will be given to the parents. The handout has a small registration form below where i have requested for the moms email id.

The play school ppl have to take personal interest in calling the moms and getting them to participate.

We will have one judge from our end and one judge from their end so that there is no regret later.

The date has been fixed for 3rd of April. a saturday, so that working moms will be able to participate.

ITs a mom and me painting contest where the moms have to print paterns on a chart paper with the help of their kids hand and fingers and maybe even feet. the best creative 3 will be awarded.

 The programme schedule is as below:

Everyone gathers by 10.

the contest starts by 10.15

finishes by 11.30

A vote of thanks and intro of chennaimoms by bhavani.

prize distribution by judges.

good bye by 12.30

Same thing can be done in some of the play schools you all know, before ofcourse they close down which i think will be the mid of april.The contest can be different as the schools prefer but the moms of the  kids have to be involved too.

Good start sudha.. So let me take my turn on 10th April (Sat) topic: nutritious food for kids. Its a cookery contest for moms at my play school. Around 30 moms will be there. I spoke to admin about the contest and looking out for judge. timing is from 10 am to 12 noon . Around 25 moms have rgistered as of now. Lets see how it goes further. I am inviting more moms for registration. As sudha does, we can give a slip asking for their email id. If this goes well, we can plan out for camps often.
