Last Saturday, I was going through the LB Road, and saw many students waving flags, and supporting Anna Hazare Movement. And today, i read in paper that someone had named their child anna ! Truly, this octogenrian and his movement has created a great wave !

By the time I was born, Gandhiji, and his movement was all but lessons in history... Infact, people had forgotten Bapuji, his freedom fight, except perhaps school students who mugged up the dates to score marks...So other than those lessons, few movies and the speeches made by polticans on Jan 26th and Aug 15th, every year, i hardly had any kind of experience of the Satyagraha !

Being born and brought up in Trivandrum, Kerala, I'm not new to strikes, hartals or gheraos ! We have protests, and strikes , there, every other day. And more than once, i've found myself in the midst  of protestors throwing stones on the police men and the police in turn blowing the tear gas at them...

But the anna hazare movement is different. Its for such a noble cause - to bring back the India that stalwarts like Gandhiji and Nehruji dreamt of.  This struggle for freedom from corruption, will be the nearest expereince of Freedom Struggle, that our generation will see.

Anna Hazareji's fasting, has brought together the India, just as Bapuji's did, it has awakened the young and the old alike. All along, the strikes and hartals that i've seen have only been a nuisance to the public, but for once there is something, that everyone , is cheering.

History has proved , more than once, that non-violence and satyagraha can defeat any army however strong they are. If Bapuji's fight could drive out the mighty British, will not Hazareji's struggle bring in a new corruption-free  regime in India ?
