Managing Kids from Food Allergies:

Most of the parents have a problem for feeding food to their children due to allergic problems. This problem is only due to immatural immune system and digestive system. An infants or children having food allergies are strongly influenced by their hereditary. This condition can be very serious and even life threatening. There is no cure for it and because food allergies can vary from child to child there is no one solution on how to best manage it.

When you found the allergic reactions in your children, immediately start your discussion with pediatrician what is the food allergy action plan and ensure that all adults who are caring for your child have a copy of the action plan. If your doctor has prescribed epinephrine for your child, this medication can be life saving and must be available at all times(this medicine i saw in one article).

Every year, around the second week in May, is Food Allergy Awareness Week.

The symptoms for food allergies are:

Most food allergies will occur within minutes of eating the allergy-causing food. However, some reactions can appear up to two to four hours later. Allergic reactions need to be taken seriously, some reactions can start out mild and then progress to more serious symptoms.

1.Tingling in the mouth

2.Hives

3.Swelling in the lips and difficult breathing

 4.Abdominal cramps

5.Diarrhea

6.Running nose

7.Wheezing

8.Red watery eyes.

The eight most common foods that cause allergies include:Milk,Eggs,Peanuts,Soybeans,Wheat,Nuts,Fish and Shellfish (such as crab).

The best way to manage food allergies is through prevention. Reading food labels during grocery shopping is one of the most important tasks required in preventing food allergies. Don't assume that a food you've always eaten safely will have the same ingredients the next time you purchase it. Read the label each and every time you shop. If possible, have your children help you.

Note:I got this news from one article:Due to some recent food allergy laws, all foods containing the top eight allergens  must clearly identify the food in plain language on the package. All labels are to be marked so that a 7 year old can read and understand the ingredients. There are also some food products and brands that manufacture foods specifically for individuals with food allergies.

The name of the food source on a food label must appear in one of many ways for example:In parentheses following the name of the ingredient, for example:
flour (wheat).

If a product has an allergy advisory label then it may contain the allergen (food causing the allergy) and should be avoided.

Safety of Food Allergy for kids in Schools:

Food is almost frequently used in elementary school and after-school programs. Your child’s school records should also reflect the food allergy. This way the teacher can either find a safe food alternative item for the lessons during the year.

It will require strict diligence to avoid specific foods in your child’s academic, social and home environments.Understanding food allergies, clear communication and having an action plan in place are essential tools to deal with this condition. Your positive approach and understanding will also be important in helping your child deal with their food allergy.
