Low blood pressure during pregnancy:
Low blood pressure is also called as hypotension is often associated with fainting and dizziness. Hypotension is the medical term for low blood pressure or refers to abnormally low blood pressure. If you have a blood pressure of less than 90/60 they you have hypotension. This happens normally in women and occasionally in pregnant women. But during pregnancy especially, fainting and falling due to low blood pressure can be of serious concern. It could lead not only to dizziness but there is a risk of injury from falling while fainting. Pregnancy causes blood to pool in your legs, making less blood available to the brain. Low blood pressure from any cause can deprive a body of enough oxygen to carry out its normal functions, leading to damage to the heart and brain.
In the beginning of the pregnancy blood pressure gradually decreases it will reach its lowest point in the middle stage of pregnancy and by the end of the pregnancy it will reach to the regular level.
The cause of low blood pressure tends to be dehydration. Being very hot and standing for a long period of time can contribute to low blood pressure. Iron deficiency is the most common cause of anemia. Being anemic can surely case someone to feel lightheaded and dizzy. Dizziness or being lightheaded can be caused by a sudden drop of blood pressure where the brain did received enough supply of blood.
The women with low BP can suffer from dizziness or light-headedness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, stiff neck, low concentration, this may also cause vision problems, nausea, cold, clammy, pale skin, depression and thirst. Thus, when you rise from a laying or sitting position you may feel dizzy or faint.
How to prevent Low Blood Pressure
There are few causes for low blood pressure
1. If it is due to dehydration: Treated with intravenous fluids
· Drink plenty of fluids, especially water
· Avoid fluids increase blood volume
2. If it is due to pooling blood: Compression Stockings
Compression stockings are the same elastic stockings which may help to reduce the pooling of blood in legs, commonly used to relieve the pain, swelling, and blood stagnation of varicose veins.
