Tips for finding a good Pediatrician

Finding a doctor that fits your style is as important. Good pediatrician should be up-to-date with the latest trends in disease prevention, treatment and child development concepts.

You should be very careful while selecting a pediatrician to your child. Children should be treated by one doctor who know his/her history very well up to certain age. Older doctors of course have experience, but not very old so that they will be unable to treat your child when he becomes little older.

You should find a health professional whose suits your style, personality and behavior and the one who attends your child even after office hours when emergency situation arises.

Most new mothers find it difficult to find a good pediatrician for their children so I give you some useful tips to select a good Pediatrician:

Ø      Ask your friends, co-workers and especially some of your medical friends to recommend a good pediatrician.

Ø      Your health insurance company can also help you to find a good pediatrician who suits your plan and nearby to your area.

Ø      Prepare a list of them and narrow it down to three or four by selecting near your home.

Ø      Try to check their background and previous history.

Ø      Get appointments from all doctors those you have selected and visit their office.

Ø      Ask them all your queries and get cleared, such as:

ü      Their office hours.

ü      Is there any other alternative Doctor in the absence of their presence?

ü      How will be the response for the emergencies at night or after visiting hours?

ü      Will the doctor attend the call anytime or else which number you should contact?

ü      How to get your appointment fixed?

ü      What is the fee structure?

ü      What type of treatment the doctor suggests?

ü      Which company medicines the doctor prescribes?

ü      Which hospitals the doctors refer?

ü      Immunization policies.

ü      What is the cycle of baby check ups?

Ø      You can even enquire some of these questions to the staff in the front office counter like billing, appointments, and care after hours during emergency, calling procedures, etc. Because if you question all these to doctor sometimes a busy doctor might get irritated. Even check whether the staffs are friendly talking to you or not.

Ø      If the doctor has more than one clinic make sure that in which clinic the pediatrician spends more time.

Ø      Check whether the clinic is clean when you visit the clinic and is there any separate rooms for the sick and the normal child came for general visit or regular monthly check up.

Ø      Make sure that the doctor is not very old so that they cannot treat your child after certain age and some old doctors are not up-to-date in latest trends and techniques in medications. But too younger doctors might also lack experience.

Ø      See how patient they are while answering your questions and they should also not over treat your childen.

Ø      The important thing is that first your child should be convenient and feel comfortable with its pediatrician.
