Miscarriages during Pregnancy

Most miscarriages during pregnancy take place in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Causes for miscarriage

  1. Most common problem is hormonal problem due to Low progesterone and it is not easy to treat. Usually progesterone suppositories will be prescribed when the hormone level is low. A common treatment for a suspected progesterone problem is Clomid, a pill taken for five days early in your cycle to rev up your hormone production.
  2. 25% of women will have decreased cervical mucus, which can actually make them less fertile.
  3. Due to untreated thyroid disorder. Your thyroid function can easily be tested, and this problem is easily treatable.
  4. Chromosome defects can cause a newly fertilized egg to die as much of 60 per cent of miscarriages happens due to chromosome defects. By testing the tissue from the miscarriage we can easily find out this defect. Although you lost this one precious baby, the chances of it happening again are extremely small.
  5. Miscarriage can also happen due to unusual shape of the uterus. In this case when the baby starts to grow the irregularly shaped uterus may not be able to expand and the miscarriage happens. Corrective surgery on the uterus shoud be done.
  6. In some cases the cervix may be weakened die to multiple D&C procedures or their mother taking DES when she was pregnant. This can cause early labour usually during a period from 12-24 weeks. In this case weak cervix may start to open up and let the baby out. A cervical stitch that holds the cervix closed should be done.
  7. A uterine abnormality like varying levels of septum’s can often cause a miscarriage due to early labor, but it can also cause fetal demise. Some are paper-thin and simply move out of the way for the baby, causing no problems. But some cases in which two sections of tissue that normally fuse together to form the uterus only fused on the bottom. Therefore, there is a huge wall going down the middle of the uterus. As the baby grows and required more and more blood and nutrition, this area could not support the fetus. So beware of varying levels of septum’s, only a high-level sonogram or an HSG dye test can uncover this problem.
  8. Blood clots in the placenta can be caused by Antiphospholipid antibodies that block or slow down the baby's blood supply, causing growth to slow or the baby to die altogether.
  9. Antinuclear antibodies are caused by an auto-immune problem, in Lupus, where the body attacks itself. The treatment for this problem is Prednisone, a corticosteroid, which calms down the inflammatory process of auto-immune disease.

Fetal-Blocking Antibodies work to protect the baby from the mother's immune system, which will recognize the father's genetic material as foreign to her body and attack it. If your tests show you and your partner's DNA to be too similar, you can receive injections of your partner's white blood cells, in hopes of getting enough of his HLA in your system to stimulate a stronger protective response

I found that now a days  swine flu is unexpectedly more dangerous to pregnant women and their babies. They are dying. Not all of them, not even a lot of them, but more than was expected. So the flu itself is a risk.

when pregnant women have swineflu ,they have a chance of miscarrage in the first trimster
