Tonight I would like to dedicate my diary to all those 'Newborn Supermoms' who gather all the courage they have after long labours; really proving them to be labours of love. One of my closest friends delivered a beautiful baby girl a few hours ago. I was privileged enough to attend and support her through her birth and like every woman who I support, I learn something new about Super-Motherhood.
After being in labour for 20 hours, on the delivery table, Preeti was just about giving up and frankly, I didn't blame her. She was exhausted, fed up and just wanted her baby with her and the whole thing to be over. I must say, she was a rock star throughout. She kept going, working through the contractions without so much as one complaint until the tail end. And then her doctor said 'This is your baby; you are in charge of yourself and your baby - of course you can do this' and sure enough, she did. I saw the courage and strength of a mom who-was-not-even-a-mom-yet as she took a deep breath and said 'I can do this'. And through that, my lovely friend stepped into motherhood, where one has no choice but to take charge, create, grow and cherish this wonderous new being called a child. The entire room vibrated with the sheer power of those moments where she summoned her Supermom strength and took charge of herself and gave her baby life.
My darling friend, I would like to tell you today how proud I am of you, how wonderfully you did and I would like to welcome you to this amazing club where the entrance fee is the most potent payment and yet most delicious prize of them all - being a mom for life....
Regards,
Anika Puri , Child Birth Educator.
