This is a casual conversation between my elder son and myself.... thought of sharing with you all.

Myself and my elder son were doing a chart for his school work. We pasted pictures and were done with the chart and I started writing his name Vikas Murali (my son's name + my husband's name). My son asked me "You did the chart and I am going to talk about the chart in my class, why are you writing father's name?".

I didnt know what to answer? What would you have answered if you kids asked you the same question?

Share such interesting discussions that you have had with your child so far....

I would say something like "Daddy/Father is the head of the family" Hence, it is a tradition for everyone in his family to carry his name or his family name.

You could also say that, when he (your son) does well in studies and in life, his daddy is going to be very proud of it as his name will be associated in all certificates, marks card, passport and everything he is going to accomplish in life!

What about mommie and her share in the work of bringing the small guy up?? She will not be proud as her name will not be mentioned??

His observation is obviously that the dad did not have any part in the work done and he is correct.

I think i would explain to my son (almost 11 y) that sometimes a person gets credits altough he has not done the major work. associated which is also very true in work life later on. i assume your son is first or second standard so this would not be an understandable explanatiopn for him i guess.
