If any of the moms opinion on these schools teaching and other activities... PSBB Mill, Chettinad, DAV,Maharishi & BVB .also comments on other schools would be appreciated My son DOB - 11/2/2004 and i am planning for UKG admission.we are at present in shahghai and Relocating to chennai in dec-08. Your input is valued,
Hi...my daughters are in Chettinad. I am quite ok with that school. Some parents feel that the number of children in each class is more (around 45)...I guess it is ok. Their syllabus is quite tough...but nowadays kids manage just fine. They providing food (Breakfast, Lunch and evening Milk and snacks) is a real real lifesaver for working moms like me. Also, my kids love school and that what really matters isnt it?!!!
Thank you for the information on chettinad school.how about the admission procedure and also the fees. I heard from some of my friends that it is a school for rich.is that real......
About PSBB Millennium - excellent school, excelleeeent teachers and a nasty management. Without regard for the time that would be spent in commuting, the management has decided to move the higher classes to Porur. In a disgusting expansion spree,( increase in 2 sections in each class in 2 years ), children residing in and around Guindy, Alandur, Adambakkam, Nanganallur, Adayar, Velachery worst affected. Parents Beware.
Hey Poorni, which area are you likely to settle down. Consider the following, when you want to put your little one into school. a) How far is the school from the place you reside b) What is the past academics of the school. c) which is your preferred board / syllabus you would like to opt to d) what kind of education pattern, extra curricular activities, socialising etc., do you want your little one to be engaged on in the next 3 years e) fee structure and also importantly any kind of donations etc., f) Do they have a school transport to commute your kid. Evaluate each one of the above and then make a decision. If you let us know which area, then I think other moms too would contribute their views.
Hi Gaima, We have still not decided the house location. It depends on my sons school.i prefer to put my son in CBSE. I also prefer to have some extra activities in the school.if any DAV / Maharishi / Chettinad / PSBB Mill. i am keen to know about these schools. Thanks
Hi Poorni, PSBB school in Tirumalai Pillai Road is a very good school for CBSE curriculum. Their extra curricular activities are really good. The school infact emphasises on that too. The coaching is good, but as the kid goes to higher classes the home work load increases. My hubby is a student of DAV. He dint want to put them there cos, he said they wud make the student only to study and no extra curricular activities. The school also has swimming lessons from 2nd std. Put them here, I think u get the forms at Rs.150/- issued on Nov 17th onwards for 4 days. Bye
Hi...I admitted my kids thru' normal procedure only. They give applications in Nov-Dec time. We just got it and subitted on the same day and we got the interview card that's it. Reg. fees it is expensive but ok when compared with some of the International schools. Per year you might spend something around 18k and for admission maybe 30K.
do u have to give donation like 50,000 or more to chettinad vidyasram??? or the nris should only give donation? becos one of my friends who joined chettinad vidyasham gave around 50,000 as donation to join the school...it seems this happened very recently around may-june 2008. Do nris have to give donation, if so what's the amount...pl. clarify friends.
hi MomofTwins , Can you specify the school you have your children in.we could be R2I only next month, what could be the best to do for applications.do some schools consider like our case too... Thanks. Poorni
Hi poorni, I have been wanting to have live chat in this site for sometime now. They dont have it. Kutty
Hi I have my son in PSBB Millenium. As for the coaching, attention from Teachers, its excellent. Beyond what we even imagined, my son now speaks, talks and even teaches us. Their idea to move the Schools standards from 4th onwards to a new block is a little troublesome. But for me as I reside between porur and the existing location, it does not matter. If you dont mind the commutation, it is an excellent school for the child to be in. Extra students and extra section may speak of their business attitude. But to think of the other side, I remember so many parents who went away because of lack of seats last year. Their additional section is in no way going to hamper the quality of education they provide. And to see the other side of this inconvinience, Children are going to get so many additional facilities for sports and extra curricular activities. Every coin has two sides. Its in our decision, which side we value more. With little option of better schools in this side, I prefer to continue here. But ofcourse for new aspirants, today is the last day for applications. Am not sure if they would extend. Check www.psbbmilleniumschool.org
Hi...My kids are in chettinad. Reg. donation I guess all of us have to pay. I paid around 25k for LKG...but if it is for some other class like 1st or 3rd etc. they may charge more. It's not only for NRIs but for all...also they give receipt for the same.Reg. applications...I dont think they give special care for NRIs...you must probably ask some of your relatives here to enquire in the school and procure the application. Hope this helps!
Thanks mom of twins...thanks alot for replying my query..one general question, i hope chettinad vidyashram has all extra curricular activites including horse riding etc, right... but how many students are there in a class...the student teacher ratio, more students in a class ( like 45 or more) is that affecting students ability to compete, and lack of attention of teachers to each student..this is not only with regard to chenntinad i'm asking..this is a general question..and with regard to the breakfast, lunch, milk and snacks serving how much is the fees coming upto every year...they cook inisde the campus and serve? is the food of good quality , healthy and hygine..just concerned about the kids health..so only i'm asking..or is there a cantin and the students can buy whatever they want as needed? IS the school result oriented? do they show good results every year in 10th and 12th?
Fees per term for UKG is around 6K. Food wise no issues it is very hygenic and kid-friendly. No. of students yes around 45 but I feel it is ok. Yes they have a LOT of extra curricular activities. Exam results are pretty decent only.About canteen I am not sure. Overall I am ok with the school.
thanks alot mom of twins...i will also look into into school and try to apply for admission..
hi poorani i hope you are not in india?but how do u process the admission formalities in schools..do u have your relatives in chennai, they are doing it for you or are you doing it online. since i'm also not in india, just wanted to know.. thanks. barmee
Hi Barmee, Except PSBB Millinium all the other schools are issuing only from Jan, we could go there at that time.for PSBB Mill. i download and send the filled form. when r u expected to R2I
Hi Poorni, If you are looking for a school with elite crowd. I would suggest Lady Andal in Harrington road.
Hi Renuka, i heard lady andal is only for girls.i have a son and not daughter so............. thanks,
hi poorani, i'm expecting to r2i maximum by april 2009, so my sister and other relatives in chennai should help in admission formalities. If you are sending psbb milli by post is it not going to take a long time to reach the school...or are u sending online itself...let me also check the website, i'm also searching for a best international std school ( may be with cbse or icse, anything is okay now)for my boys to join lkg. So doing a research in internet with the great help of online reliable chennai mothers and friends like you..good that you are going early in dec'08..u can see the school, area, safety of the school and the area , meet teachers and security..in person before getting admission...seeing in person is good for final decisions. but for me due to citizenship matters, i may have to wait till april'09... alright..take care poorani. regards barmee.
hi moms, there is a school in ra puram named harishree vidyalayam. They say they are affiliated to icse.I have a son 3 1/2 years old. I stay very close to school. I simply procured application for academic year 2009-10 for LkG for my son and I also got the admission through interview process. I am impressed with the school atmosohere as the crowd is less and the disciline inside the school campus.Their LKG UKG and I std are based on montessori. My only concern is about icse sylabus. Moms if someone can help me with the icse sylabus pattern. As some say is it really tough? Can someone also guide me on as how good is a montessori base for icse sylabus.
hi raji and all other moms, i too have the same doubts about icse board, heard its very tough, but v. good for kids and very rich people ( i mean who are very good at professional jobs and business also)will go for icse for their kids, as the syllabus brings more and broad knowledge in kids. The kids with icse knowledge can go abroad for higher studies itseems...Also heard that if a kid is doing icse syllabus , and changes to cbse it will be easy for the kid, but when a kid is studying cbse, changing to icse will be tough itseems...these are vogue ideas i have on icse boards, i also searched in internet what exactly icse board will have in the syllabus and what exams do kids on icse take in 10th and 12th....still i'm unable to find...if anybody have an idea/ any website for icse board, pl. send it... for raji: the best way is to ask the school principal about the icse board, the difference b/w cbse and icse, and which is good for kids for this generation..may be they will clear our doubts correctly...also ask them kids on icse board what exams do they take in 10th and 12th, do they have separate exams from public exams... if u get more info on icse from your son's school, pl. post here raji, we all will know more about it... take care barmee.
PSBB millenium claims they are shifting pre-kg to 3rd std to GST road campus ONLY for academic year 2009-2010.. From 2011, entire school ( all stds) will be functioning ONLY from porur.. But it was not communicated clearly in web site and not even during the interaction session we had for our son Pre-KG admission.. Now our son has to travel around 15 kms daily to school from 2011 when he will be just 5 yrs old.. Or i hv to go for next round of school search.. Parents please be aware of this..
Hello Sangs, Could you please tell me where is PSBB millenium school in Porur?
hi raji and other moms, as raji have asked about the difference b/w cbse and icse boards and montessaori type of teaching...i'm just waiting eagerly for a replies from u moms and from raji too from her son's school, now that my relatives and sister have started applying for veal billabong and gateway-complete education school..( both are icse std school) i'm also anxious which is really the best std cbse or icse for kids...can anyone help? thanks, waiting for the facts on this stds...thanks again, barmee.
for PSBB School's Porur address one can check the site map which is uploaded on the school's website. Website : www.psbbmillenniumschool.org The Route Map to the new campus has been uploaded under Locations and Facilities - in a new drop box. Regards Sangeetha
Hi Poorni, Lady Andal is not a girls school. Its a co-ed. They are giving application from yesterday (1st dec). But they said they have opening only for pre-kg and the date of birth of the kid should be after 1st march 2006. Since the discussions is more on CBSE schools, I would like to point out that Lady Andal is a matriculation school and not CBSE. Hi Barmee, I am too confused about the ICSE and CBSE. As far as I understand ICSE is international syllabus. They say it's light weight academics, but not sure. There are not much of ICSE schools in chennai. Gateway, vaels billobong etc are ICSE. I think hari shree vidyalaya is ICSE. We have to ask Raji ! But there are lots of CBSE schools. If you take any location you can find atleast 3-4 CBSE schools. If you might travel within India, CBSE is good. If you travel throughout the world, ICSE would be better I guess (again not sure). Hope it helps.
yes bhraman, all points we say is correct, but what exactly a student will study in icse the subjects, the syllabus if not in detail, just the outline will do for the parents to know about icse, that's what i'm asking... i'm applying for two schools like veal billabong and gateway- icse stds, and i want to apply for two or three best cbse board schools also..can anyone help me select the best cbse schools with nice extra curricular activites inside the campus itself. I will ask my sister to apply there also. I would prefer co-education instead of only boys or girls. So dav is ruled out for me, though it is a good school. I'm going to apply for chettinad vidyashram also, any other best cbse schools, pl. help me list friends...thanks barmee.
Friends ICSE syllabus is internation standard. If you are aiming or planning for your kids to study undergraduate in USA then this syllabus will be really helpful. The syllabus between ICSE and CBSE is not much difference. only they way it is taught is different. Please refer the following link for the syllabus http://www.icseguess.com/syllabus/ Some of the best ICSE schools are 1. Sishya 2. KFI - TheSchool Hari Shree Vidhyalaya is a recent school and has classes upto 8th till now. As far as i know Veal's is not yet affiliated to any board. so please enquire in detail before admission
thanks very much cutey-chandy...your information is helpful... one another doubt is will the students of icse board write public exams in 10th and 12th ( of normal cbse board) or will they write a different exams ??? if they follow some other exam pattern for icse students will they get seats in mediacl and engineering colleges in india itself especially the govt. colleges?
They follow different exams. In TamilNadu,to get Admission in GOVT colleges, you have to score >98% in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. This is very difficult in CBSE and ICSE. If your aim is for Medical and engg in TamilNadu then let you kid study in CBSE/ICSE upto Xth standard and shift them to stateboard school in XIth standard
thanks cutey-chandy...your inputs are highly vaild, will it be difficult for the student to study the state board syllabus after shifting from cbse/ icse? i mean i know that state board syllabus will be easy when compared to other stds...but being very easy syllabus will also tend a student not to strain more / concentrate more on studies...right, anyways its in a student- parent hands to make the children write exams peacefully...just a doubt will this shift gives a student more strength or otherwise?... thanks for your inputs chandy....
Hi cutey_chandy , Thanks a lot for your information as i aslo had a confusion about the ICSE.
Hi Barmee, That shift will depend upon each and every individual. But in general it is a smooth shift. If particularly aiming in Medicine/Engg in TamilNadu then that shift is required. If aiming in All India or study in USA or any other foreign country then my advise would be not to make that shift. But again everything depends upon the each and every individual
Hi, I dont think you need to worry much about the board of study. Bcos, as per the new selection process, they have separate calculation for other board students in Professional college admissions in Tamil nadu. They have a good weightage system in place introduced from last year.
hi i am new to this blog. i am staying in US now, i will be back by march, will i get admission in dav, psbb,Hari Shree Vidyalaya, bala vidhya mandir adyar or mylapore. should he write entrance for all this school, is that a rule. can anybody tell me about this. please help me thank u

If your son is otherwise fine, Urine surrounded by ants is no indication that someone is diabetic , this is quite a common feature, but because diabetes runs in families so whenever you visit your paediatrician next do discuss your family history with him so that he/she can keep a watch.
Hi Natalia,
No 2 kids are same so u cannot compare him with your daughter, From what you have written, doesn’t looks like there is a problem, some kids start speaking late, so if his understanding of things and hearing is all right, don’t worry, just continue talking to him, reading to him and otherwise stimulating him and just relax and enjoy your babies!
