My daughter is 15 months old. She wants to pick/scoop and eat on her own. She also want variety every day. I am running out of ideas. I need help with quick and healthy recipes for toddler menu. Do you know any?
Good that your daughter already likes to do things by herself. Here are few eatables/tips. 1. Cut idly into pieces (you can even dip/pour some dal over it if she likes the taste) and ask her to eat all by herself. You can give her fork which will make it easier for her to pick. 2. Boil potatoes (baby potatoes) with little salt and pepper and cut it into pieces and serve her 3. Make thick dosa like oothappam. You can be more creative and put some grated vegetables like carrots in the dosa batter. Cut it into small pieces so that it can be lifted using fork. 4. Mix the rice with dal in thick consistency, make small balls and ask her to pick them and eat. You can decorate the boiled egg white piece or small piece of beans etc on top of this ball. 5. Give her puffed rice - pori as evening snacks. 6. Try Noodles. Most of the kids like noodles and they have real fun eating it. Let me think and add more...
One more! If she doesn't swallow the food (i mean does she grinds it with her teeth yet?), try giving her sundal (both black and white grams are good).
These are great tips. Thanks for sharing with me. Yes, my daughter can chew and grind the food before she swallows it.
Toddlers generally like to take food with different shapes. U can try preparing dosas with different shapes like cat, flower, etc. U can also make small small Pooris using bottle lids. If u take egg, scrambled egg & Bombay toast will be good.
Try to give paneer chips with less oil. Paneer is good for toddlers. Rich in calcium which helps for teeth grow-ups. first cut the paneer into small inches grated thinly, mix bajji-bonda mix which is available in departmental store add little curd to it. put the paneer pieces in to the mixture and let it marinate for about 15-20 mins, fry in edible oil til golden brown. give your baby this healthy snack at the evening time.
you can give Vegetable soups(without corn flour)
My baby love to have that by her own.
I give my son cornflakes with milk...garnish with dry fruits(of with banana) for breakfast.dhal rice with boiled vegs for lunch...pediasure with biscuits in the evening...puffed rice, grated coconut with sugar, sundal, dry grapes etc. when he s unmanageable...and aval upma, ravai upma, pongal, dosa, chapathi, poori for dinner.
@Renuka: Small pooris is gud idea. I feel excited when I think abt it. Will definitely try and post the result.
Hi Amudha,
The right age to start health drinks is after 2 years. If you are giving make sure you start giving during night time.If you give him during morning itself,he will not eat other foods and he will not feel hungry at all.
I found some organic millet based cereal in nuts and spices. Bare sweet and very crunchy. My 9 month old loves it. Healthier snack than pori and even a good breakfast/tiffen idea if served with milk.
My son is bored with idlis and pongals. He likes ragi and I wanted a healthy finger food for him. This fits the bill.
@kpks: Is your son able to swallow it easily? Does he hav teeth. My daughter is the same age and I am looking out for healthy foods for her. Wat is the daily menu for your son? and is there anything specific aout the cereal you mentioned?
