Hi Friends,
Often I have seen the terms Pre-school, Play-school and montessori go hand in hand. Now since my son is almost an year old, and I am trying to focus attention on his schooling plans, can someone please explain me clearly what's the basic difference between all three and at what age the kids join one of the three or all three. Also which ones are supposed to be the best rated pre/play/montessori schools in Chennai?
Since he is already going to Kanchana Paati, Ashok Nagar Day care daily 6 hours so I know about them (and really annoyed with them now a days for some reason) you can leave mentioning the same.
Thanks,
Smita
Because I cant manage Arya and home all alone in mornings. When I do my cooking and my daily household chores and also outside jobs, I want someone to take care of him. It was not so till my in-laws were here but now they are in USA and they, as matter of fact, got him in daycare. This month when they come back, Arya, I think, will stop going. Till then, I want to keep him away from kitchen and washing machine and dust and all which he will get exposed to when I am working and he is behind me.

You can try with a maid to take care of Arya for some hours. During that time, you and the maid can take turns with the household work, whichever you prefer to do yourself and which you can give her to do. That way, Arya will always be within your reach. Just a suggestion.
Pre-KG means a class before KG. Pre-KG can be attended either in a proper school which has higher classes like upto X, XI. Or Pre-KG can be attended in a playschool. It depends on the main school (KG and beyond) which you are planning to put your kid into. If the main school has PRE-KG standard, then better to take admission in PRE-KG then the child automatically goes to LKG in the same school. Most of the times now, LKG admission doesn't take place because the PRE-KG students from the same school get priority. I hope its not confusing.
If the school that you want to put Arya in, doesn't have PRE-KG then you can put him in a playschool. Some play-schools do start at 1 and a half years with the mother also sitting with the child. Typically play school starts around 2 years. (Playschools may also teach the child on what is expected during school interview, but I'm not aware of that personally. During my times, 5 years back I searched for a good playschool in my area but couldn't find one. Now some good brands like Eurokids have come up. But I've not been to them, so you need to check out these). I put my son in Treehouse in Mumbai this year for summer camp and he really enjoyed it. They are planning to start in chennai as well but only in some areas. They mainly run playschools.
Montessori is a methodology of teaching for KG. I think it extends further also. There are full-fledged montessori schools even for higher classes. Many schools use this montessori method for teaching in KG.
That was really helpful Shanti. Thanks for sharing. I also tried Maid thing but after mother-in-law went to USA that was not working out properly as I cant speak in Tamil first things so too much of confusion, and secondly, when I am aound, Aryaman dosent want to stay with maid but only with me. SO thats why.
Thanks annyways.

My husband's colleague's wife who stays in Anna Nagar calls some agency and they send hindi speaking maids. But I'm not in touch with her now. Yes the problem is the child will take some time to get used to the maid. But don't worry, when Arya goes to playschool you'll get some time, then more time in KG. That's how it goes. Check out Eurokids if its close to your house.

How are you? Why are you changing from Kanchana patti? You said it was good! What happened?
Ok. any way Euro kids is the international way of play school. One of my friend is running it in Nungambakkam. Her name is Savithri.
It is better to putyour child in a montessori environment rather than some ordinary play schools as every thing will be taught on hands on activities, even washing hands and all small small things which we do at home( we will not give them the liberty to it by themselves, but in a montessori environment they are allowed to do freely. They learn conceptually just not A, B C D etc. and a for apple like that. If they need to teach apple for example, they say that is round in shape, red in colour and white inner side and tastes sweet, etc. So the children would love to see it andtaste it Same way describing animal with their features and expalaining will make them learn more.
you can very well enquire with some schools about this.
