Tags : Pumping mothers milk
Hi,
I am planning to join work in 3 months of my delivery as I couldn't take more leave. So I would like to explore the option of pumping breast milk and storing. Could you suggest if its a good option and how to go about it.
I used to pump and store milk for my babies. You've to determine and express at proper intervals. Store the expressed milk in clean bottles or you get use and throw packets these days. I store in freezer as there are many electricity fluctuations and freezer would be colder than the fridge in such situations. When i take it out to feed my baby, I thaw it to room temperature. To thaw don't use microwave or directly boil on stove. You've to heat the water in a vessel and take it off the flame. Then keep the milk bottle in that water. Within few minutes it'll reach the room temperature. Test the temperature by dripping a drop from the bottle on your inner wrist area. then feed to the child.
Please remember, it's not advisable to freeze the milk for more than a day (with our indian electricity problems. otherwise you can freeze the milk for 4 days) and do not leave the milk in room temperature for more than 30 min.
Hi Nikkita,
Although Dipali has given all the answers, I would add a few things:
(A ) When at home, feed the baby directly from the breast, You can feed before leaving for work. and then immediately after coming back from work. As this will keep your milk prodn up.
(B)The containers used for collection should be absolutely clean and dry. Wash hands properly before expressing( Pumping out) milk. The pump should be cleaned thouroughly before and after collecting milk. The manual pumps with rubber bulbs SHOULD NOT be used.
(C) DON'T use bottle for your expressed breast milk. Whoever will feed the baby in your absence should use KATORI SPOON / PALADAI. As use of bottle
1. leads to nipple confusion thus the baby finds it difficult to breast feed and this in turns leads to decreased milk prodn in mom.
2.Needs maintainence of v strict hygeine.
3 .can lead to dentition problems later on.
Though the life will become hectic when you will start doing all this BUT the health benefits to a child EXCLUSIVELY breast fed on her mothers milk for the 1st 6 mo of her life are awesome and PRICELESS. AND the relationship which you will share with your baby lifelong will be amazing and worth all the hardships.
cheers!
If your son is otherwise fine, Urine surrounded by ants is no indication that someone is diabetic , this is quite a common feature, but because diabetes runs in families so whenever you visit your paediatrician next do discuss your family history with him so that he/she can keep a watch.
Hi Natalia,
No 2 kids are same so u cannot compare him with your daughter, From what you have written, doesn’t looks like there is a problem, some kids start speaking late, so if his understanding of things and hearing is all right, don’t worry, just continue talking to him, reading to him and otherwise stimulating him and just relax and enjoy your babies!
