My son's health

Bharatmomsmother- sshanthi question

Hi moms,

Really worried about my son's health, since this is the 3rd time in this school year that he's down with fever. I see that other kids in his school don't take so much leave so I feel very sad that I cannot take care of his health.

The problem is he is very choosy about the fruits and vegetables that he eats so the options become very limited.

I would like to know if any mom gives anything like an ayurveda supplement for older kids (he's 8 and a half) for some nutrition and to prevent cold/cough.

Shylaja

Hi Shylaja,

R u giving him honey & dates daily? Because these two have good energy. Even Doctor advises the same.

hey shylaja, sorry to know that he is down with fever again. But don’t worry on the attendance / academic part. Just ensure that he is not drinking water from outside (which is not distilled / boiled properly). Also the climate change is bringing fever in most of Chennai-ities

You can try chavana prakash that is available in all the leading stores, also as habi said dates is a good one.

Hi Habi, Anu,

Yes, he eats dates. Honey he likes but I've not given him since sometime. Will start again. and also I'll try chavan prakash.

Water is the main problem since this time he got bacterial infection. So even after Aquaguard filtering, I'm boiling it now. All moms take care of this.

Thanks, dears.

Shylaja,

In Kuwait doctor advised not to give either Mineral water or filter water for Kids & children. They told us to give for Imanu boil & filter the normal drinking water. Also keep in Mind as much possible water we have, we will keep away from diseases. Keep giving him dates & honey in the morning before he goes to school.

Cheer up Shylu.

Shylaja ,

As Anu said do give him  chavan Prash daily ... but make sure he drinks milk after having chavan prash ....because it will generate heat ..

You take juice of ginger and mix it with honey and give him like one spoon daily when he is having cold ....that will also help a lot .

ginger , chavanprash ... r heat generating one...so take care of that also. Take care of him .

Yarantha Prakash?  gurlz.. its Chyavanaprash or chyavanaprasham.. rich with gooseberry.. the known richest source of vitamin C.  I would also suggest that ... and kids love its taste.. so no probs.

and if he has a habit of drinking milk, let him have with a pinch of turmeric.

Chewable vitamin C is also available in the medical stores.. try Limcee.

Please dont bathe him in evenings. Check for any allergies like dust allergy. Keep mosqitoes out as they breed infections.

Take care..

hey, thanks girls. Just getting replies from all of you is very soothing for me.

To summarize :

Habi says - honey & dates, boil & filter water

Anu - chavanprash... careful of outside water...

Vaidehi - vitamin C in guava & orange

Gayathri - chavanprash with milk and ginger with honey (doesn't like ginger!)

Nisha - chavanprash, milk with turmeric (he'll not like this), chewable vitamin C (he's taking this - citravite)

Shobana - thanks for the articles

Lakspai - yes, he's prone to dust allergy. Mosquitoes, trying my best to keep out but even in my doctor's place there are mosquitoes!

Hi  sshanthi ,  for  kids  who  are prone  to  cold ,  thulasi  is  very  good . Many  suggestions  have  been  given  but  still  i think  this  would  give  some  remedy  too.

Boil  2  cups  of  water  with  handful  of  thulasi ,  a  small  piece  of  dry  ginger  and  a pinch  of  coarsely  ground  pepper  for  10 mins.   strain  and  give .  try  to  give  it  in  a  weekly  basis  to  avoid  cough n cold .

Pepper  powder  mixed  with  honey  is  also  a good one .
