Hi,
Can anyone give me feedback about Chettinad vidhyasram. How many kids per class ? How is the education and extracurriculars. Is it a good school for NRI return kids? Also, can anybody throw some light on Harishree vidhyalayam?
Thanks,
Priya.
Hi Gayu,
Both my children are in Chettinad.(son in std-vii, daughter in std-1)..in each section there are atleast 50 kids..academically its a pretty decent school ..quality of teachers is good ..the school does offer a variety of extra curricular activities but I feel the children ,being a part of a huge crowd hardly get any time to enjoy those activities ..its one of the few CBSEboard schools that offers French as the second lanuage from Std-V..precisely the reason my kids joined there after moving back from UK ..thats also the reason why there are a no. of NRI kids..how old are your kids ?? Harishree is an ICSE board school but has already built a reputaion for being good. Do let me know if I can help you in any other way.
Suva
hi Suva,
I too have heard about Chettinad. I am currently in US and planning to return by April end and I would like to put my 7 yr old son in 2 grade there. could you pls help me how to approach them for admission as I heard that it is very difficult to get admission in such schools.
Bhuvana
Thanks Suva. We live in US and are planning to come down in the end of March. My parents have submitted application forms in Chettinad. My daughter are 9 and 7 yrs old. Would you think Chettinad would be a good choice for their transition? or any other schools? Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks,
Priya
Although Chettinad is a good school , children coming back from abroad do take a while to get used the crowd. I am sure they'll feel a bit lost in the begining and pretty overwhelmed by the sheer size of the class but I always feel Children are more resilient and adjustive than their parents think they are.The problems last till they have a few good friends. Priya & Bhuvana , your children are at just the right age to make the transition. Harishree is the other alternative but they conducted their admission tests in Jan itself. There is another school called Vael's Billabong where lots of NRI kids join. They,I think follow ICSE syllabus. Bhuvana , Chettinad has their admission tests in April . I guess you can still apply. I'll try to find out the details. BTW my daughter will be in cl-2 after June.
Hi Suva,
Thanks for the information you have given Suva, it's of great help to me.
Hi Priya,
Can u pls help me. As u know schools in US closes only in June and they said that they can give the promotion card only by that time, but I am planning to leave to India by April 1st. So they said they can give me only the letter stating that he was in 1st grade and attended the school till March end and I will have only the performance report until that time. Will this be enough to get the admission in Chennai schools or will they expect the promotion card also. I think you are also in the same situation. do you have any information on this.
Thanks
Bhuvana
Hi Bhuvana,
I haven't talked to my kids' school yet. But I guess the report cards for 3quarters should be sufficient. I haven't heard anything about promotion card. I will let you know the answer from my school. I am leaving in the end of March to India. Where do you live? We live in Chicago.
Priya.
Bhuvana,
Are you trying only in Chettinad? or other schools also. If so, what other schools are u trying.
Priya.
Apart from Chettinad, Lady Andal, Vidya Mandir, Sishya, The School PSBB are also school in the CBSE category. DAV is another option and there are many more schools such as these.
