Hi Moms,
My kids r in UKG now .They r studying in Sankara School, Adyar. Its a CBSE school.
Now since they r moving to 1st Std, we need to select their second language. We have the option of selecting Tamil/Hindi.
I am in dilemma to choose the language.I prefer Hindi, cos thought we can teach her Tamil at home..But few of the moms r saying that tamil is a diff language and has to be taught only in school....
Can u guide me.
From 2nd std onwards sanskrit has to be taken compulsory as 3rd language in their school.
I also have 1 more query, if we plan to shift from one school to another , will they ask for compulsory Tamil language to be there..
Moms waiting for ur reply........
We need to inform the school by tomorrow...pls suggestions r open
i would suggest u pick a language that u r comfortable in... only then u will be able to help them when they have doubts in their early classes. after 10th they can choose sanskrit or french acc. to their wish.
almost all schools have tamil nd hindi as an option for sec. lang. so even if u change schools it should not be a problem if they don't know tamil....
Hey Thx pa,
I know basics of Hindi...so thought i can manage teaching her, then we can arrange for some alternative.......
CBSE Hindi is a bit tough so it's difficult for non-Hindi speaking kids. My son is finding it difficult even though both my husband and I know Hindi very well.
I faced this dilemma too, I studied in KV and speak hindi fluently, and my mom had taught me tamil at home, and so i can read and manage to write too..
but when it came to choosing 2nd lang for my daughter, my 1st choice was Hindi. But seeing the quality of teaching of Hindi in her school, and given the fact that my daughter was much more comfortable learning Tamil, since the Tamil taught in school was of good standard, i decided to go with Tamil.
Though i learned hindi thruout school and am very fluent with it, i have to admit that it has really not been of any use to me. My hubby, though he studied in Tamil medium, learned hindi privately(visharadh, or whatever), and is just as good as me in hindi.
So, my suggestion wud be to go for Tamil, our mother tongue, kids are most comfortable with it.. If u shift school too, u might not face much of a problem.. Ultimately, look at it as only a language..
HI i am a old student of Sankara school Adyar. In my period Tamil /Sankrit & Hindhi was compulsory. So there was no confusion for me to choose. But now a days all were changed.
Pls select the language which you most comfortable.
Kindly let me know the donation which you have paid & term fees. bcoz iam planning to put in sankara school. i am staying behind of that school.
Hi Yoga...
Its better to choose Tamil itself. So u may not face any poblem while changing the school in furure...
Cos I done my Primary level in CBSE.There same problem my mom faced. She had given preferrrence to Hindi. Later when I changed my school (CBSE to State board) No second language option as Tamil is Compulasory subject.
Though I speak well in Tamil, I even failed until i get practised to write & read in Tamil....
Hai
before sharing my thoughts re ur question, i would like to know the standard of teaching at Sankara. what r ur thoughts?
coming the lang selection, as others have suggested, choose the language which u r comfortable in. like if u have a good knowledge of Hindi, not only spoken but also grammar, then pls go ahead and choose hindi. Hindi is best whereever u travel throughout india. but if u just have a basic knowledge, then drop the idea of choosing hindi as u might have to sit with ur kid and make him/her understand the meaning of each and every word. as he/she grows up she will have to write essays on her own (general topic). there mugging will not help and she will start developing an aversion towards the subject.
so everything depends on ur knowledge on the subject. i have chosen hindi as second lang for my son and i sit with him on each and every lesson , ask him to read the text book understand the meaning and then read the notebook. he is the topper in his class.
so nothing scary but it all depends on ur level of understanding the subject.
bye
I have opted for Hindi too for my son. My husband does not know to read or write Tamil since he studied abroad. I did Tamil until 5th Std and I can read and write and third language was Hindi....Sanskrit was my 2nd language from 6th Std to College however, it came of no use to me.
I personally felt that Tamil can be taught at home and Hindi will really come of use specially when you go out station or even otherwise. This is my personal opinion.
Hey Thx to all for ur valuable suggestions.
I met there mam, discussed with her, she convinced me to take Hindi as the 2nd language, but after looking at ur write ups now am little confused whether i have taken wrong choice....
If your son is otherwise fine, Urine surrounded by ants is no indication that someone is diabetic , this is quite a common feature, but because diabetes runs in families so whenever you visit your paediatrician next do discuss your family history with him so that he/she can keep a watch.
Hi Natalia,
No 2 kids are same so u cannot compare him with your daughter, From what you have written, doesn’t looks like there is a problem, some kids start speaking late, so if his understanding of things and hearing is all right, don’t worry, just continue talking to him, reading to him and otherwise stimulating him and just relax and enjoy your babies!
