Once upon a time I worked as a faculty in multimedia and currently working in IT industry , with that knowledge ill tell some few suggestions..

Dont go for full course as they will cost a lot, though it will cover all types of softwares but it will be ultimately waste....Because he have to pursue his carreer any one the field, whether it can be a media/Web/Graphic designing/Publishing/Editing/Game development field, So based on your brother's interest choose the course.

So many courses available in mutimedia, some of them are 2D/3D Animation, video editing,Compostiting,Printing/Publishing and Web Designing course

Ill just give a overlook on various types of softwares in multimedia and their associated fields.

2D animation -Main software is  Adobe Flash(Fields: web designing / e-learning / Games development).

3D animation - Main softwares are 3D Max(Media/IT/Architecture/Games) and Maya (Media)

Graphic Design - Adobe Photoshop(Graphic/Web designing/Image editing/Media).

Audio/Video Editing/Compositing - Main softwares used are Sound Forge, Adobe Premier(Media/Studios) and Combustion(Media)

Apart from this,there are lot of softwares in multimeda and some of them are Coreldraw /Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Indesign/Adobe Pagemaker(Printing/Publishing/GraphicWeb designing), Adobe Dream Weaver(web designing).

If you want a placement assurance means go for branded multimedia centres ex:- Arena,Image etc.,

Or you can even have a look on full time courses on mutimedia in Image/Arena etc.,

Dont go for smaller institute because they wont have a proper faculty to teach the subjects.

If u want to save money and to get knowledge in multimedia means go for CSC-Softview.

There are plenty of job oppurtunities for Graphic desginers/Animators in IT/E-learning industry.

Hi Savi, Animation and graphics is really a good course to do these days. It has a good future and he can definitely go for it. Ask him to join for Diploma in Multimedia course may be in Image or Arena centre. All the best for him
