hi
we r also going to shirdi in may....we are going by train....and i hv attached the hotel tariff in which we hv booked accomodation....other places to visit...i think shani shinganapur is on the way frmo pune to shirdi....hope this is useful.
have a nice trip..
Nandhu,
I go every year to Shirdi and i go by train first class from Bangalore as there is a direct train to Kopergaon and from there Shirdi is only 15 mins.
I usually stay in Woodland hotel as it would be hygenic and u can get food frm the restaurant there as well.
Wow.. wish you a happy and pleasant journey..
We have been there twice before.. and a visit is still pending with Sanju... hoping to make it sooner.
Both the times, we traveled in train. First we went from Bangalore to Kopargaon and from there to Shirdi. The second time we went to Pune and from there, there are many buses direct to Shirdi. I do not think there are much places to visit between Pune and Shirdi.. or maybe we havent visited yet. The road between the two cities rather looked like a village and mostly surrounded by hills.. people there only knew Marathi... no English no Hindi.. we had to use nonverbal language to communicate to the bus conducter!
Shirdi, is a very small town. The place where the Mandir is and a little town surrounding it... thats it.. beyond that is very plain land where you rarely find a house or a hut.
For stay, I would suggest saideep villas, which just a stone throw away from the mandir. Though there are also many many other villas and hotels, this we found the rates are reasonable, very close to mandir, also that they gave us VIP tickets for the kakad aarti which was otherwise tough to get (large Q etc...). We reserved out rooms via phone well prior with them. When u call, check if they can get the Kakad arti tickets for you.. if u can manage with the baby to be there at 5:00, Kakad arti is really a pleasant experience.
Then there are many kutti shops where Baba idols are sold, if you are buying check the quality of the idols... there are many duplicate marbles too... u can find them out by examining closely. Better to buy from Shops. there is one very close to Saideep villas. we bought it from there.
Food, though there is a not bad restaurant connected to this hotel, we found a hotel where u get South Indian food in the main road.
Do visit the Khandoba temple where Mhalasapathi was a pujari when Baba lived in Shirdi. You can take a rikshaw from the hotel to this temple, very small temple, but its so nice to connect to the chapters of Satcharita.
Though all say that we should go to Shani Shingnapur which is just 80 kms from there, we couldnt go both the times we went there. Hoping to make it at least the next time. There are many travels and vehicles from Shirdi everyday.. u can see ppl calling out for travelers.
Please check the website of the hotel for their contact numbers .. also their website has some other places to visit around Shirdi. check it out!
