Hi Aneetha, Which place is Australia are you moving to? I was in Melbourne a couple of years back due to my husband's onsite assignment. If required, I can tell you about Melbourne.
I dont know about australia but I can say few essential things to carry...
1) Thermal wear
2) medicines like crocin/vicks etc,.
3) food items like podi's check what all is allowed to carry
4) A small guide abt the place ur going to..can get it thro' the net
5) u can go to ur pediatrician and inform abt it and get list of do's and dont's...
will let u know if i remember something else... have fun
Please do not take any food items both cooked and uncooked - podis, pickles, sweets - they do not allow them. But if its very necessary that you need to take, declare it in the immigration form which will be filled as soon as you land there.
hi anita nice to hear from you.tom only the place willl be confirmed.it may be either brisbane(mostly) or perth.can't we carry podis, groceries etc., in check-in luggages.
@rads thaks for info.and continue ur help by giving more suggestions.
If we carry groceries, we need to declare them in th immigration form and there is a chance that they 'll throw off some items. We had this problem when we went. We had taken some groceries and sweets. We did not declare it in the immigration form thinking that it would a longer time to finish off the checking and leave the airport. Unfortunately, when we landed, the scanner did not work and they started checking the luggage manually. So, they threw away some podis and opened the sweet box and threw away sweets like rasagulla. They gave us a warning and noted down the Passport number so that they can track down next time when we repeat the same mistake. That's the reason I wanted to inform you. Even if we declare, they will discard some items. Australia is very strict in this reason unlike USA.
Aneetha...
Hope u enjoy ur stay there. Do a checklist from now itself to reduce forgetting in packing items in the last min.
Kids water, medicines, thermal, warm clothes for kids, passport, visa, cotton to keep in ur ears while plane journey etc...
